O presente estudo tem como objetivo comparar crianças e adolescentes quanto aos níveis de empatia sentida pelos mesmos. Procurou-se assim saber se há diferenças a nível da capacidade de sentir empatia quanto à idade, ao sexo e à escolaridade. Participaram na investigação 127 crianças e adolescentes, de ambos os sexos, entre os 10 e os 16 anos, do concelho de Coruche, que preencheram um inquérito de autorrelato, composto pelo Reading the Mind in the Eyes Test. Os resultados mostram que existem diferenças quanto ao sexo, tendo as raparigas melhor pontuação no RMET, quanto à idade, os adolescentes obtiveram maior pontuação, e quanto à escolaridade, os alunos do 3ciclo e secundário revelam maior pontuação no RMET. Conclui-se assim que estes grupos possuem competências superiores de reconhecimento de expressões faciais de emoções, tendo maiores capacidade de empatia.

The present study aims to compare children and adolescents regarding the levels of empathy felt by them. We tried to find out if there are differences in the ability to feel empathy for age, sex and education. Participated in research 127 children and teenagers of both genders, between 10 and 16 years, located in the county of Coruche, who completed a survey of self-report, composed by Reading the Mind in the Eyes Test. Results show gender related differences, with girls having better scores in the REMT, age wise, teenagers had better scores, and according to schooling, high schoolers had better scores in the REMT. It is concluded that these groups have superior abilities of recognition of facial expressions of emotions, having greater capacity of empathy.
