Renovar a arquitetura a partir de processos que pretendem incorporar o utilizador no desenvolvimento de projeto é entender que o arquiteto possui a capacidade de negar a construção em si como maior objetivo. É evidenciar a competência de se moldar a diferentes contextos. É compreender o alcance social de qualquer intervenção no território, constituindo a prática arquitetónica como uma melhoria efetiva das condições e qualidade de vida dos utilizadores. O arquiteto desenvolve assim novas autonomias, procura oportunidades de intervenção, rejeita a lógica tradicional de encomenda, promove a mobilização das populações, compreende a participação e a transformação social como tema fundamental da arquitetura, integrando-se num processo aberto de diálogo que pondera sobre determinada realidade política, económica e cultural, bem como sobre os padrões sociais do lugar onde intervém. O Bairro PRODAC retrata um conjunto de operações que pelo seu caráter participativo e interventivo, determinam uma manifesta singularidade no contexto português e internacional. Mediante um Plano de intervenção defnido pela Associação de Produtividade na Autoconstrução (PRODAC) no início da década de 1970, o bairro construído em regime de autoconstrução realojou os moradores do Bairro Chinês, um dos maiores aglomerados de habitação de génese ilegal que Lisboa contemplou, em terrenos cedidos pela Câmara Municipal de Lisboa. Durante cerca de quatro décadas, os moradores, que participaram diretamente no processo de construção das casas, lutaram pelo direito de serem reconhecidos como proprietários legítimos das habitações. Desde 2011, a Associação de Moradores do Bairro PRODAC Norte cooperou com o gabinete de arquitetura Ateliermob para regularizar a estrutura de propriedade do bairro. Através do fnanciamento do Programa BIP/ZIP, produziram-se os processos de licenciamento necessários à conclusão da operação, assim como trabalhos de requalifcação do espaço público do bairro. A participação, comprometimento e trabalho dos moradores do bairro revelaram-se fundamentais à materialização destes exercícios.

Renew the architecture from processes that claim to incorporate the user on the project development is to understand that the architect has the capability of denying the construction itself as the main object. Is to point the competence of molding to different contexts. Is to understand the social range of any territorial intervention, is to establish architecture practice as an effective improvement of the users conditions and quality of life. The architect itself unfold new autonomies, seek intervention opportunities, rejects the traditional logic request, promotes the inhabitants mobilization, understands the participation and social transformation as a fundamental subject of architecture, integrating itself in an open process of dialogue that ponders on ascertain politic, economic and cultural reality, as well as on social standards from the place where the intervention takes. PRODAC neighborhood portrays a set of operations that due to their participatory and interventional character, determine a manifest singularity in the Portuguese and international context. Through an intervention plan defned by the productivity Association in self construction (PRODAC) in the early 1970s, the neighborhood was built on a self-built regime to relocate Bairro Chinês residents, one of the largest illegal housing agglomerations that Lisbon had, which land was given by the Lisbon City Council. For nearly four decades, the residents, who participated directly in the building process, fought for the right to be recognized as legitimate homeowners. Since 2011, the Association of Residents of the PRODAC North Neighborhood has cooperated with architecture ofce Ateliermob to regularize the ownership structure of the neighborhood. Through the fnancing of the BIP / ZIP Program, the licensing processes required were completed, as well as rehabilitation of the public space in the neighborhood. The participation, commitment and work of the residents were fundamental to the materialization of these exercises.
