According to the General Regulations of Evaluation of Knowledge and Skills (RGACC) in effect since the academic year of 2018/2019, the methods of evaluation of a CU are defined by its coordinator, and should include one or more of the following evaluation modalities:
- Continuous evaluation: evaluation that extends throughout the entire academic period and reflects a permanent interaction between teacher and student. Therefore, participation is a major instrument of evaluation in this method.
- Periodic evaluation: evaluation that occurs at multiple moments in the course of the academic period using instruments of evaluation previously defined in the FUC.
- Evaluation by exam: evaluation which occurs exclusively during the period of final evaluation and concerns all the lecture material in the curricular unit; evaluation by exam necessarily includes a written test, and can also include an oral and/or practical exam.
PERIODS OF EVALUATION
- Normal period or first period: all students regularly enrolled in a curricular unit take their exams during this period.
- Supplementary period or second period: students who have not attended the first period, withdrawn from/failed an exam in the first period, failed continuous or periodic evaluation, or who intend to improve their exam grade (in the terms pre-defined below) are automatically placed in this period (without registering for a spot).
- Special period: those who may access this period include student finalists according to the guidelines in the General Regulation of Knowledge Evaluation, and those who remain in the situations of exception detailed in the Regulation of Students with Special Status.
These three periods apply to all the curricular units which feature a final exam in all cycles of study, except the public defense of a dissertation, project, internship report or thesis.
GRADE IMPROVEMENT
Students who, having passed a curricular unit in which they were enrolled, wish to improve their grade in that unit can do so through the terms laid out below. An explicit request should be made to Academic Services (SGE) or on the online academic management system, which may require a fee under the terms in place, shown in the Fee Table.
- In undergraduate and integrated master’s curricular units, students can register only once to improve their grade in a curricular unit during the two subsequent evaluation periods;
- For curricular units that occur during both semesters, the following periods of evaluation are also considered: those which occur in the semester alternate to that in which the initial passing grade was obtained;
- In master’s curricular units, students can enroll only once to improve a grade in a curricular unit during the second period of the academic year in which the initial grade was obtained.
