Em Portugal, grande parte da população adulta apresenta não só baixos níveis de escolaridade como também níveis de literacia reduzidos. Sendo o desenvolvimento de práticas de literacia em contexto familiar fundamental para a aquisição de competências neste domínio, considera-se que é fundamental conhecer as práticas que pais e filhos desenvolvem, nomeadamente em relação à leitura e à escrita. Através da Iniciativa Novas Oportunidades, é interessante conhecer e analisar de que modo os processos de Reconhecimento, Validação e Certificação de Competências (RVCC) facilitam, ou não, o desenvolvimento da literacia dos adultos e promovem, em simultâneo, práticas de literacia em conjunto com os seus filhos. O estudo que aqui se apresenta inicia-se com uma breve revisão bibliográfica sobre Literacia e Aprendizagem ao longo da Vida, Educação e Formação de Adultos e Literacia Familiar. Segue-se a explicitação da estratégia metodológica e a apresentação dos resultados e conclusões aferidos a partir de doze entrevistas realizadas a adultos pouco escolarizados com filhos em idade escolar, destacando as mudanças percepcionadas em várias esferas das suas vidas.

Being the development of literacy practices in family context fundamental to the acquisition of skills in this field, it is considered to be essential to know the practices that parents and children develop, particularly to reading and writing. Through the New Opportunities Initiative it is interesting to understand and analyze how the RVCC processes (Recognition, Validation and Certification of Competencies) makes it easier, or not, the development of adult literacy and promote simultaneously literacy practices together with their children.The present study begins with a brief literature review on literacy and lifelong learning, education and training for adult and family literacy. Follows by an explanation of a methodological strategy and presentation of results and conclusions measured from twelve interviews of little education adults with school-age children, highlighting the perceived changes in various spheres of their lives.
