In 2023, Iscte was ranked in 505th in the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings, the ranking of the world's most sustainable universities in terms of their environmental performance. In the group of universities located in the city centre, Iscte came 77th out of 252 universities.
Iscte improved in the Setting & Infrastructure, Transportation and Education & Research categories.

About this ranking
The UI GreenMetric World University Rankings aims to assess universities' commitment in developing a sustainable campus. To this end, it uses performance indicators in the following categories: Setting & Infrastructure (15%), Energy & Climate Change (21%), Waste (18%), Water (10%), Transportation (18%) and Education & Research (18%). This ranking had its first edition in 2010, aiming to increase university awareness towards sustainability.
In 2023, 1183 universities from 84 countries took part in the ranking.
This year, the theme of the ranking, ‘Instituting UI GreenMetric: The Way Forward’, is to assess the efforts made by universities to continue their programs and policies to become sustainable universities.
